A Description of a Real Course
Since 1999, groups of Swiss teachers,
studying English at the University of Zurich, have come on three-week
courses. The standard of their English was very high so we were
able
to set up a programme that involved a number of outside visits
and guest speakers, as well as project work in the local community.
As the course took place in a local secondary school
and coincided with the last week of their term, we set up a number
of activities involving the school – observation of classes,
discussions with teachers and considerable input from the head teacher
and other members of staff. So, in their first week, they got a
very clear picture of life in an English secondary school, along
with regular classes from Excellence in English tutors to improve
fluency, accuracy and pronunciation.
In the second and third weeks of the course, the students,
who were working in the secondary school’s beautifully equipped
Learning Resource Centre, had a tailor-made mix of language work,
project work, visits and speakers, so that by the end they felt
they had both improved their English and widened their knowledge
of English culture and English life in a small town.
"A perfect place to stay."
"I appreciated the friendly and open atmosphere."
"Well structured and organised teaching."
